A European equestrian firm has opened its UK HQ in County Durham.

Rebels of Sweden, which makes specialist horse saddles using carbon fibre, has expanded into an office in Beamish ahead of the brand’s UK launch next week.

Sylvia Dickinson, director for Rebels, said: “The opportunity to launch such an innovative product and brand into the UK, coupled with the support we have received from Business Durham means we are in the best position to have a huge impact within the UK equestrian market”.

Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration said: “We’re delighted that yet another innovative company has chosen County Durham as the location for their business. It’s clear that the support that Durham County Council offers through Business Durham is encouraging businesses to choose County Durham as their base, creating jobs and improving the local economy.”

Stewart Watkins, managing director of Business Durham added: “County Durham has a fantastic track record of attracting new investment from companies outside of the UK. The support that Business Durham provides to these companies coupled with access to a skilled and flexible workforce, means that County Durham is an attractive proposition for investment”.

Rebels plan to launch its UK brand at the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) 2013 Trade show on February 17 – February 19.
