Sunderland transport giant recognised for outstanding achievements

Five of transport giant Arriva’s businesses have been honoured at an international awards ceremony.

The DB Awards, which are open to businesses operating in more than 130 countries, recognize outstanding achievements across the Deutsche Bahn (DB) group.

This is the second year that Sunderland-based Arriva, as DB’s division for passenger transport outside of Germany, has participated in the awards, which are now in their 10th year.

About 160 DB group employees from 15 countries attended the awards ceremony in Hamburg, Germany, after being nominated for 18 projects in six categories.

Two Arriva businesses won award categories, and three businesses secured runner up and joint positions.

David Martin, chief executive of Arriva, said: “The DB Awards are an important way to showcase the strength and expertise we have at businesses across the Arriva group. They highlight excellent examples of teamwork and partnership working, and the skills and professionalism of the people we employ across the Arriva group.

“We will be taking a close look at all of the different DB award winners to see if there any initiatives that we can learn from and share within Arriva to further improve the way we operate and deliver more improvements for the millions of people we transport every day.”

The DB awards aim to showcase success stories and demonstrate creativity, economic efficiency, partnerships, customer focus and business progress as well as DB’s commitment to implementing new ideas and business solutions.
