Plans for a £100m housing development and retirement village at Wynyard Park on Teesside have been submitted.
The planned development comprising of 780 houses and 220 retirement properties will create hundreds of new jobs and it is estimated that it will contribute an extra £2.9m to the local economy each year once completed.
Wynyard Park started out in 2005 and has since attracted more than £250m of private investment.
The business park is currently 90% let and is home to over 65 companies of varying sizes which support around 2,000 jobs.
These include Huntsman, one of the world’s leading chemical companies, and logistics experts Clipper who recently opened a huge distribution centre with the creation of 500 jobs.
Plans for the new developnebr have been submitted to Stockton Council by Wynyard Park’s owner Wynyard Park Ltd. If permission is granted, work will begin in mid-2013.
The development would be built on land to the north of Lion Court off the A689
Chris Musgrave, chief executive of Wynyard Park Ltd, said: “If approved, this development will not only bring a substantial boost to the local economy but many hundreds of jobs will be created as a result in these current economically challenging times.
“Furthermore this development will help fund the vital infrastructure required in terms of roads and services which is essential for us to continue development of the rapidly expanding business park and ensure we continue to attract major companies to the region.”
Plans for a new hospital on the Wynyard site are also moving ahead, with the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust proceeding with procurement.
Wynyard Park Ltd says the principle of developing the site earmarked for the scheme is well established as planning permission already exists for commercial development, and this is being reconsidered to meet government targets and generate much-needed investment in the area.
